Transportation Engineer 3 - Traffic Safety Engineer
The Washington State Department of Transportation has an immediate need for a Traffic Safety Engineer to support the Northwest Region. We are looking for a highly collaborative individual with technical traffic knowledge and experience. Safety is paramount to the successful design and implementation of our highway and bridge projects. The Traffic Safety Engineer would be responsible for using a data driven approach to reduce the frequency and severity of crashes on our roadways.

The Northwest Region within the Washington State Department of Transportation is the largest region in the state. We stretch to the borders of Canada down throughout the south sound. The Traffic Safety Engineer will work with the design offices in order to offer recommendations on how to effectively protect the citizens of our state. This is the opportunity to make a lasting mark on the State of Washington's highway system.

This position will perform the following work:
•Take the initiative on following new research.
•Lead initiatives to implement innovative and proven counter-measures in a systemic, data driven fashion.
•Perform various analysis using the Highway Safety Manual, Safety Analyst, GIS, and other tool.
•Prepare technical reports and offer recommendations on how to reduce crashes.
•Perform detailed safety analysis for freeways and highways as part of project planning and design, Crash Analysis reports, Interchange Justification Reports, and alternative analysis.
•Support project offices with issues related to traffic safety.
•Represent the traffic interests in project development meetings, public meetings, and respond to public inquiries.
