STAFF 1, ASSOCIATE ENGINEER – STRUCTURES

The Position

Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

This position is located within the Structural Design Division in Carson City. Incumbent is responsible for performing federally required routine, in-depth, special, and emergency bridge inspections consistent with the requirements of the National Bridge Inspection Standard; collecting National Bridge Inventory(NDI) and element level inspection data; developing bridge repair strategies and producing bridge inspection schedules; preparing bridge load rating analysis, and performing various bridge management tasks. Travel is required approximately 80% of the time. Travel will require incumbent to spend long stretches of time out of state.

To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Certification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field; OR two years of journey level technical experience equivalent to an Engineering Technician III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Employees in this class who are not registered professional engineers may not represent themselves as such to other persons or entities.

Special Requirements

  • Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.

Additional Position Experience

  • Travel is required approximately 80% of the time.

 

 The following additional questions are part of this Recruitment

  • To ensure accordance with NDOT standards, incumbent must complete required training for Level II certification in the following nondestructive testing methods; Visual, Liquid Penetrant, Magnetic Particle, ultrasonic, and Radiographic Interpretation. Do you understand that failure to meet this requirement could end in release of this position?
  •  Candidates for this position shall possess the qualifications as required by the American Welding Society to sit for the exam. Can you meet this requirement?

  • As a condition of employment, incumbent must complete the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) comprehensive bridge inspection training course within one year of employment. Can you meet this requirement?
  • This position requires certification, within one year of employment as an ACI Field Testing Technician Grade "1" and Certification Precast Concrete Institute level "II" Inspector, and National Association of Corrosion Engineers Coating Inspector Program Level "I" Inspector. Can you meet this requirement?
