The section maintenance coordinator assists the transportation maintenance manager (TMM) by coordinating and overseeing the work of a single crew. This position has regular lead responsibilities over a crew engaged in the repair, renovation, and reconstruction of roadbeds, surfaces, structures, and facilities that are part of the state's transportation systems.

Additional Details

  • This position is represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU/OPEU).


  • Plan, prioritize, schedule, assign and review work activities.
  • Train employees in the operation of a wide variety of heavy and light equipment, to handle materials safely and to conduct maintenance activities.
  • Ensure crew has the resources to accomplish work.
  • Review work of crew and provide input to TMM on employee performance.
  • Assist in the hiring and selection process.
  • Assist the TMM with short- and long-range planning and budget preparation.
  • Patrol highways and structures within the section looking for potential accidents, hazards and damages.
  • Work alongside crew members and monitor the work performed to ensure that the work meets applicable standards, policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications


  • Three (3) years of maintenance and/or construction experience in:
    • roadway/highway
    • bridge
    • sign
    • drawbridge or
    • landscape.

One (1) year of this experience must have included lead work responsibilities.
Special Qualifications
  • You must be able to respond to the maintenance station at 63055 North OR-97, Bend OR 97701 within 30 minutes, in the event of an emergency.
  • Have a valid class A commercial drivers' license and tanker endorsement at the time of application.
Preferred Attributes
Your application will be graded based on the following preferred attributes. Applicants whose knowledge, experience and skills that most closely meet the attributes below will be invited to interview.
  • Experience clearing snow and performing other maintenance tasks in major mountain pass areas with heavy traffic.
  • Experience working with a variety of personalities and resolving differences while working as part of a team.
  • Experience using computers and smart phone technology.
  • Experience using traditional organizational methods to manage workload.
