Summary: This position is located in the National Response Program (NRP), Office of Intelligence, Security, and Emergency Response (S-60) within the Office of the Secretary of Transportation (OST). The NRP has the delegated responsibility to coordinate the Departmental preparedness, response and recovery activities in all hazards crises for the Office of the Secretary (OST), and in support of the Secretary's responsibilities under the National Response Framework (NRF).
Ideal Candidate Statement: OST is looking for a seasoned, motivated and self-reliant professional who can meet the demanding deadlines of the National Response Program, Operations Division of the Office of Intelligence, Security, and Emergency Response. Outstanding written and oral communication skills are essential. The incumbent supports the DOT, NRP by assisting in the development and maintenance of emergency response and homeland security plans, providing/recommending policy, and systems equipment, procedures, training, and exercises necessary to ensure DOT is capable of carrying out its mission.

As an Emergency Transportation Specialist, you will:
•Analyze the effectiveness of the DOT’s emergency response program plans to meet emergency response and Homeland Security policies.
•Perform training and exercise activities supporting planning and execution of Emergency Support Function-1 (ESF-1) and coordination of this training and exercise activities with the S-60 Emergency Preparedness Training and Exercise Program Manager.
•Develop and participate in the planning and executing activities at the National Response Coordination Center (NRCC) when activated. Assist in coordinating activities and requirements of the regional teams during emergency and or disaster response.
•Plan and assist in and implementing ESF-1 operations, including coordinating with DOT operating administrations through the Crisis Management Center (CMC) to obtain and share information on the status of and projected damage to transportation infrastructure and systems, and to gain assistance with permitting and other regulatory requirements administered or monitored by the operating administrations.
•Represent DOT on interagency planning workgroups and meetings.
•Represent the Department as the liaison to other federal and state/local agencies who may have transportation information needs, or may impact transportation.
