This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum and selective qualification* listed below. This is a position specific recruitment. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy, and may be used to fill future vacancies in this classification in District 1 (Wicomico County). This position manages all aspects of Transportation Safety within District 1 (Wicomico, Worcester, Somerset and Dorchester Counties). This includes but is not limited, to the constant surveillance of the District's Highway System in order to proactively identify and remedy points of hazard, directly responding to the concerns and suggestions of area residents, elected officials, and local government, planning and managing commercial access developing and administering the District Emergency Management program, special event activities and Work Zone Traffic Control (WZTC) application. The incumbent manages and supervises a team of traffic engineers, consultants, and technicians who investigate, review, design, and implement all traffic control enhancements along the state highways of District 1. This includes, the planning, design and implementation of major construction projects including design build programs, maintenance and utility projects and commercial development projects. It involves coordination with all offices within the district and with various MDOT SHA offices, including Planning, Highway Design, EAPD, Office of Traffic and Safety, Bridge Design, Communications, C.H.A.R.T, administration and environmental and historical agencies. In many cases this will also include similar agencies within the region's local governments and the State of Delaware (Del-Dot). QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Qualifications: Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university. Experience: Seven (7) years of experience in professional engineering. Selective Qualification: Three (3) years of professional traffic engineering experience. *A selective qualification recruitment is conducted for positions when there is a specific or additional bona fide occupational qualification (i.e., knowledge, skill, or ability). Additional work experience in professional engineering, or in technical engineering at the journey level or above, may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education. 2. Possession of a Master's Degree in engineering may be substituted for one year of the non- supervisory experience. Persons currently registered as Professional Engineers in the State of Maryland, or in a state with comparable requirements, are considered to have met the education requirements Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate will be a Licensed Professional Engineer or an Engineer in Training (EIT) preparing for the Professional Engineer Licensing Examination in the State of Maryland or in a state with comparable requirements. LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS: Possession of a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the state of Maryland.
