Bridge Design Engineer - Engineer Senior/Engineer 2 Graduate

ATTENTION APPLICANTS: Two vacancies will be filled in Bridge Final Design. These vacancies are being announced at two different job classes at the same time, Engineer Senior and Engineer 2 Graduate. The final class and starting salary is dependent on the successful applicants’ qualifications. As a Bridge Design Engineer for the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), your work will be highly visible and impactful as you will perform structural analysis and design new bridges and repairs for extending the life of existing structures. You will use advanced technology to conduct bridge analysis and design and will have the opportunity to gain project leadership experience by assisting the project managers in creating project specifications. You will have the ability to be creative, and will create designs that are structurally sound, economical, and aesthetically pleasing, all while ensuring that they are practical to build and maintain. Engineer Senior Required Qualifications: • Licensure as a professional engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, AELSLAGID) or ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity. • Knowledge of structural engineering practices sufficient to understand and appropriately apply design specifications. • Knowledge and application of mathematics and geometry sufficient to perform calculations. • Knowledge of AASHTO Bridge Design Specifications, Guide Specifications, and MnDOT design standards. • Computer skills sufficient to use structural analysis and bridge design software. • Demonstrated ability to collect, combine and organize technical information and construction requirements into oral and written reports. Engineer 2 Graduate Required Qualifications: • A Bachelor’s of Science degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited college or university. • Completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam. • Two years post-graduation civil engineering work. • Knowledge of structural engineering practices sufficient to understand and appropriately apply design specifications. • Knowledge and application of mathematics and geometry sufficient to perform calculations. • Knowledge of AASHTO Bridge Design Specifications, Guide Specifications, and MnDOT design standards. • Computer skills sufficient to use structural analysis and bridge design software. • Demonstrated ability to collect, combine and organize technical information and construction requirements into oral and written reports.
