The Position Milwaukee County seeks a high-performing individual to serve as Director of Transportation. The Director works under the general direction of the County Executive, and is responsible for the implementation of County policy for Transportation infrastructure in the oversight of Airport, Transit, Highway, and Fleet Management Divisions. The Milwaukee County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is a diverse Department charged with developing and maintaining Milwaukee County's vast infrastructure needs based on the diverse talent and qualifications of its staff. There are five distinct divisions within the Department and each is charged with a unique role in serving the needs of the County. The Department consists of the Director's Office, the Transportation Services Section, Highway Maintenance, Fleet Management and Transit Services. The Director manages the Department and is assisted by the Director of Administration. The Director manages a budget close to $300 million dollars and is responsible for:  Policy Direction. Establish goals and objectives for the divisions within the Department of Transportation based on administrative and policy direction set by the County Executive. Advise the County Executive of programs and initiatives that advance the transportation infrastructure of Milwaukee County.  Programmatic Oversight. Provide programmatic oversight of policies established by the County as they relate to the Department of Transportation. Provide guidance to division heads with regard to goals, objectives and requirements.  Project Development and Coordination. Work with divisions to develop project priorities from initiation to planning, development and completion.  Representation. Represent the County's transportation interest at meetings with state and federal agencies, municipalities, citizen groups and interested parties.  Strategic Planning. Establish long and short term strategic planning initiatives for all division of the Department of Transportation.  Report writing and Presentation. Prepare reports or responses to, or for, the County Executive and the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors. Requirements and Qualifications: The qualified candidate will have a passion for public service, combined with an in-depth knowledge of transportation system planning and compliance. Proven track record of designing innovative strategies focused on quality, optimization and efficiency. A bachelor’s degree in a closely related field, such as urban planning, business administration, or public administration. A master’s degree is preferred. Five years of experience in transportation system planning, regulatory and building compliance. Three years of management experience. Experience managing high-level staff preferred.
