Water Resources Engineer - Transportation Design Engineer III

The primary responsibilities of this engineering position is to function as a design engineer and reviewer in the Office of Highway Development (OHD), Highway Hydraulics Division (HHD). This position's responsibilities include providing guidance and assistance to the MDOT SHA personnel, as well as external designers, in hydrologic/ hydraulic (HH) analysis, highway drainage design, storm water management (SWM), erosion sediment control (ESC) and environmental permitting. The responsibilities include technical reviews of MDOT SHA projects and private development projects to assist District offices with Access Permits within MDOT SHA right of way. Primary focus of the position is in-house design or managing consultant design tasks for development of construction plans, specifications and cost estimates, and coordination of environmental permits to assure adherence to the design requirements and techniques in accordance with MDOT SHA policies, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the Maryland Department of Environment (MDE), and the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Standards. Working under the guidance of a licensed engineer, this position participates in the design and project management of drainage, SWM and ECS component of larger transportation projects or may manage smaller system preservation projects as well as drainage improvement and SWM remediation projects constructed under Districts area wide construction contracts. This position will support the efforts for Drainage and Stormwater Assets Program under National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit.
Possession of an Engineer in Training (EIT) Certificate valid in the State of Maryland. Evidence of certificate must be presented at the time of appointment.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience performing engineering work acceptable to the Maryland State Board for Professional Engineers involving the application of specialized engineering analysis and design that includes aspects of design, evaluation, and inspection in accordance with specifications and drawings, investigation, and planning.
Selective Qualification: One (1) year water of resources or environmental engineering design and/or plan review experience.
