Engineer I
This position is located in Lincoln NE. Applications accepted online only at www.statejobs.nebraska.gov. DESCRIPTION: The successful applicant will spend the majority of the time in the field working on an assigned Highway Construction project. This position is located at NDOT's District 1 Headquarters in Lincoln, 302 Superior Street. EXAMPLES OF WORK: Under limited supervision, responsible for inspection duties on highway construction projects. Plan and coordinate inspection and survey work on assigned construction projects. Coordinate engineering activities with contractors and/or utility companies. Attend and assist in pre-construction meetings and conferences. Perform work involved in the quality testing, selection, and investigation of materials involved in the construction of highway projects. Perform routine administrative work in the maintenance of records and reports. Maintain accurate measurements and documentation of project pay items. QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS: REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in engineering OR Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E. license). PREFERRED: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. FE/EIT certification. Experience in construction inspection of heavy highway projects to include: Structures, paving, culverts, erosion control, grading, etc. Experience using Microsoft Word and Excel, SiteManager, and Microstation. OTHER: Valid driver's license or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation. Engineering degrees must be from an EAC/ABET-accredited program. If applicants do not have an FE/EIT certificate, they will be required to obtain one within one year of hire. Regular and reliable attendance is also required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of engineering principles and practices of highway construction. Knowledge of modern methods and techniques of highway construction, maintenance, and materials. Skill in communication, public relations, coordination of projects, etc. Ability to perform the required work with minimal supervision.
