Engineer I
This position is located in Norfolk NE. Applications accepted ONLINE ONLY at www.statejobs.nebraska.gov. EXAMPLES OF WORK: Perform preliminary and final design for highway construction projects. This includes horizontal and vertical alignments, drainage, cross sections, earthwork computations, geometrics, grades, erosion control and other aspects of design. Assist in the preparation for and attend plan-in-hand meetings, public hearings, and pre-construction conferences. Prepare project cost estimates and compute final quantities. Review plans, participate in and document engineering decisions and keep correspondence files accurate and up to date. Prepare for, oversee, and participate in field inspections. Address miscellaneous design issues and provide guidance and/or recommendations. QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS: REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in engineering OR registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E. license). PREFERRED: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. Nebraska Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate or equivalent certificate from another state. OTHER: Valid driver's license or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation. Engineering degrees must be from an EAC/ABET-accredited program. If applicants do not have an FE/EIT certificate, they will be required to obtain one within one year of hire. Regular and reliable attendance is also required. Requires completion of a supplemental questionnaire on or before the closing date. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of basic engineering principles related to the design and construction of highway projects including engineering, surveying, hydrology, design standards, and geometrics. Experience in MicroStation, GEOPACK, and 3D Modeling. Ability to work in roadway, earthwork, drainage, word processing, and spreadsheet programs. Organizational and public relations skills. Quality verbal and written communication skills. Ability to perform required work with minimal supervision. Field experience and surveying skills.
