This classification performs professional work in the field of local, regional, state or transportation planning, at an advanced level of training. Under the general supervision of a higher-level Planner, the employee carries out research assignments independently, or assists in the completion of planning projects and participates in various phases of research and planning projects related to the development and utilization of land, water, transportation, community or natural resources. Duties include, but are not limited to: assisting in conducting research and studies to determine existing social or economic conditions in a community; conducting routine phases of the preparation and planning of the specific phases of a planning report or study; assisting in assembling economic and statistical data to be used as part of a comprehensive plan for the utilization of resources in a given area; and assisting in the review and reporting of the effects on proposed legislation on existing and contemplated development and planning programs.
The current vacancy exists at the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) in Baltimore, MD. The eligible list produced from this recruitment may be utilized to fill future Planner II positions within MDOT.

Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in Planning.
1. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Planning and one year of planning experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
2. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in a closely related field (* see below), and two years of planning experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
3. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in a closely related field (* see below), and one year of planning experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
4. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Ph.D. in a closely related field (* see below), may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
