The Opportunity:
The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is seeking an experienced leader to fill the role of Field Operations Manager – Transportation Planning Specialist 5 in Tumwater, WA. This position resides within the Transportation Data, GIS and Modeling Office (TDGMO) of the Multimodal Planning Division (MPD).

This position is responsible for managing both Electronics and Short-Duration Count field groups, with a staff of twenty plus FTEs. These two groups cover the following functions: installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of permanent traffic recorders (including weigh-in-motion equipment), short-duration counters and bicycle/pedestrian counters; collecting digital imagery (SRView); performing culvert inspections; conducting short-duration traffic counts; and performing special projects such as travel time studies. This position provides vision, goals, policy guidance, strategic planning and management for the Field Operations section. This position develops work programs, prepares budgets and determines the scope and timeline of special studies/programs to meet organizational objectives, as well as coordinates field staff schedules with supervisors. The position helps with the truck Weigh-In-Motion (WIM) program as part of the Long Term Pavement Performance (LTPP) program, the Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP) and the Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS). Some of the key responsibilities of this position are to promote a safe working environment and to ensure that all staff receive ongoing training in relation to safety, technology and new equipment. This position also manages a fleet of vehicles, including large trucks.
