Provide strategic leadership as a subject matter expert to the statewide operations programs. Promulgate policies, processes, and provide training and oversight for statewide traffic operations, congestion management, emergency and incident management programs. Direct programs related to Intelligent Transportation System (ITS). Manage ITS-related operations projects from planning through construction. Develop short and long-range projects with district input to address corridors with congestion and emergency management issues for inclusion in the SYIP. Work collaboratively with other VDOT divisions to foster the implementation of connected and autonomous vehicles in Virginia.
VDOT is responsible for building, maintaining and operating the state’s roads, bridges, tunnels and ferry systems. Through the Commonwealth Transportation Board, VDOT also provides funding for airports, rail, and public transportation.
