Manager of Planning & Development
Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority (TheRide), which operates accessible fixed-route bus, commuter bus, demand-response, vanpool and airport service in the thriving Ann Arbor-Ypsilanti area -- home of the University of Michigan, Eastern Michigan University and Washtenaw Community College -- is looking for an experienced transportation professional to serve as Manager of Planning and Development.
TheRide’s over 124 buses, paratransit and service vehicles, 270 employees, $40M operating and $5.2M capital budgets support 30 routes carrying over 6.6 million/yr to over 1,500 stops throughout the region. Service is anticipated to grow by as much as 40% to fulfill a voter-approved Five-Year Transit Improvement Plan.
As a member of AAATA’s leadership team, the Manager of Planning & Development is responsible for leading and overseeing planning of all agency services and infrastructure; and related policies, programs and partnerships. This includes identifying needs and opportunities in the community, leading public engagement efforts; the development/refinement of plans, policies, programs and standards, and; monitoring performance of program design. While fixed-route bus service is of primary focus, other areas of concern include paratransit, transportation demand management, facilities, and other authority services. Direct reports include: Data & Services Coordinator; Service Planning & Communication Coordinator; Bus Stop & Service Planning Coordinator; Grants & Regional Planning Coordinator, and; Financial Analyst/Planner.
In addition to being an experienced professional planner, s/he must also be a strategic thinker who will develop a high performance team to ensure service meets the highest standards of safety, customer satisfaction, efficiency, and excellence in accordance with AAATA policy and goals. S/he will be attuned to emerging technologies and industry developments that will keep TheRide at the forefront of operational excellence and optimal service delivery.
