Public Works Director

Rock County, located in South Central Wisconsin, population of 160,000, is recruiting a professional, engaged Public Works Director to oversee the operations of its Airport, Parks and Highway divisions and serve as Highway Commissioner. This highly responsible and complex position contributes to the management of the County and oversees a department of over 90 FTE with an annual budget of $18 million.

The Director operates with a high level of day-to-day independence, responsibility and judgment to implement a broad range of Public Works services and functions and recommends improvements as necessary. Work involves responsibility for planning, directing and coordinating a wide variety of activities necessary in the construction, maintenance and repair of highways within the County. Work also includes overall supervisory responsibility for the Parks and Airport Divisions.

Qualified applicants will have a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field. A Professional Engineering license is desirable. Have 10 years experience, with a minimum of 5 years, in a manager supervisory role, in road and bridge construction and maintenance, or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid Wisconsin driver's license. Registration as a professional engineer is strongly preferred. Knowledge of budgeting, management techniques and fiscal administration is also required. Salary range is $85,649 to $104,045 along with an excellent fringe benefit package.
