Engineer III - Traffic Engineering
This position is located in Lincoln NE. Applications accepted online only at www.statejobs.nebraska.gov. DESCRIPTION: This position may be filled at the Engineer I level which requires a Bachelor’s degree in engineering ($23.74/hour). If applicants do not have an FE/EIT certificate, they will be required to obtain one within one year of hire. Applicants will also be expected to pursue their professional engineer's license at the first available opportunity. EXAMPLES OF WORK: Design and development of traffic signal plans including timing, coordination, interconnect, and communication. Calculate and balance summary of quantities for materials used in traffic signals. Assist District personnel with signal turn-ons, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Review and approve traffic signal material submittals from contractors. Respond orally and in writing to questions made by the public, consultants, contractors, and inter/intra-agency sources. Provide assistance to the Districts as needed. Review work zone accidents and fatal accident reports. Will travel throughout the state performing duties as mentioned above. Requires frequent travel, occasional overnight travel, and working extended hours to meet deadlines. QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS: REQUIREMENTS: Professional experience in an engineering field applicable to the employing agency AND Must possess a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license at the time of application, and be licensed by the Nebraska Board of Engineers and Architects at the time of employment or be able to obtain such license within 90 days of employment. PREFERRED: Bachelor’s degree in civil or electrical engineering. Experience in traffic signal design and application. Field construction experience. Experience using computer programs such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Computer Aided Drafting (Geopak), Synchro, and ArcGIS. OTHER: Bachelor’s degrees outside of the United States must be ABET accredited at the time of application. Will also consider applicants with a Master’s degree in engineering from an ABET accredited institution in the United States. Valid driver's license or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation. Regular and reliable attendance. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Working knowledge of the MUTCD. Must be an effective communicator both orally and in writing. Must have the ability to work independently on assigned projects and to interact closely with other section members in a constructive manner.
