Salary:                           Transportation Engineer 1 - $68,541 - Pay grade FS-21, Step 4 

                                       Transportation Engineer 2 - $74,712 - Pay grade FS-23a, Step 4

The Department of Transportation is recruiting on a continuous basis, to fill current and future Transportation Engineer 2 positions. Positions may be filled at the Transportation Engineer 2 or Transportation Engineer 1 level.  Candidates who are appointed at the Transportation Engineer 1 level are eligible for appointment to Transportation Engineer 2 after one year of successful and satisfactory performance. 

Positions are available at our Newington, Connecticut Headquarters and at other DOT locations throughout the State of Connecticut in areas such as Highway Design, Bridge Design, Traffic Engineering, Construction, and various other areas.

The Transportation Engineer 2 independently performs a full range of engineering or related tasks in one or more aspects of transportation construction engineering projects or studies in the following areas: construction, administration, rehabilitation, surveying, testing, materials testing, operations, or maintenance OR transportation engineering projects or studies in the following areas: administration, bridge design, design, drainage, electrical, foundations, hydraulics, maintenance, operations, pavement management, regulation compliance, rehabilitation, research, traffic or utilities.  A valid driver’s license may be required.

  

Eligibility:  Please note that the exams for the Transportation Engineer 1 and Transportation Engineer 2 have been cancelled and the classifications have been changed to non-examined. In order to be considered for employment, candidates must possess the minimum qualifications listed below.

Minimum qualifications for Transportation Engineer 1: CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING: A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management and one year of experience in transportation construction engineering. ENGINEERING: A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and one year of experience in transportation engineering.  Please see job description for details and substitutions allowed.

Minimum qualifications for Transportation Engineer 2:  CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING: A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management and two years of experience in transportation construction engineering.  One year of the experience must have been at the junior working level in a professional transportation construction engineering capacity. ENGINEERING: A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and two years of experience in transportation engineering. One year of the experience must have been at the junior working level in a professional transportation engineering capacity.   Please see job description for details and substitutions allowed.
