STAFF 1, ASSOCIATE ENGINEER – PERMITS

The Position

Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

This position is located within Nevada Department of Transportation's (NDOT) District II-Permits in Reno. Incumbent performs engineering functions requiring analysis of diverse data, exercising judgment impacting daily operations and policy procedure implementation. Duties include processing permit applications; designing and administration of district contracts; special projects; special event permitting; inspection; review of temporary traffic control; preparation of technical engineering memoranda- and letters; regular site reviews- and implementation of field changes as required; providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers- and responding to public inquiries including, media, citizen, and interagency inquiries. This position spends approximately 10% of the working week in the field performing inspection duties. Women and under-represented groups are encouraged to apply. To Qualify:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Certification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field; OR two years of journey level technical experience equivalent to an Engineering Technician III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Employees in this class who are not registered professional engineers may not represent themselves as such to other persons or entities.

Special Requirements

  • Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
