Deputy Division Traffic Engineer
JOB CLASS TITLE: Engineer POSITION NUMBER: 60016854 DEPARTMENT: Dept. of Transportation DIVISION/SECTION: Division 2/Traffic Engineering Unit SALARY RANGE: $43,030.00 - $111,307.00 Annually SALARY GRADE / SALARY GRADE EQUIVALENT: 76 Equivalent COMPETENCY LEVEL: Journey APPOINTMENT TYPE: Permanent Full-Time WORK LOCATION: Pitt County OPENING DATE: 06/12/17 CLOSING DATE: 06/30/17 5:00 PM Eastern Time DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Supervise the operations of the Division's Traffic Engineering Signals Group. Lead subordinate employees in applying Traffic Engineering Principles in the operation and maintenance of Traffic Signals in Division 2. This involves performing Traffic Engineering investigations, evaluation of coordinated signal timing recommending adjustments as needed, and making recommendations and seeking funds for safety and operational improvements. Assist in development of Traffic Signal Contracts as well as post-let technical support. Oversees the Division's Logo and Tods signing program. Manage the Divisions Traffic Ordinance System. Conduct other traffic investigations as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES / COMPETENCIES: Qualified applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following: •Knowledge of the principles and practices of Traffic Engineering, The Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and NCDOT Signal Specifications and Geometric Design •Knowledge of NC General Statues and Administrative Code •Experience in operation and timing of Traffic Signals, including signal timing software •Experience in tracking operation cost expenditures •Customer service and communication experience with the general public, local government officials, and NCDOT employees, including public meetings and field reviews MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in the engineering discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience some positions may require licensure by the North Carolina board of examiners for engineers and surveyors. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
