This position provides training and support to survey related personnel in the Regions to ensure proper and efficient use of electronic survey equipment.  Additionally, this position provides information for proper surveying procedures and assistance with specialized non-standard survey situations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide training and instruction in field location and construction survey automation procedures.Includes working directly with survey crews to ensure proper and efficient use of the electronic survey equipment and working directly with office engineering personnel using computer design and drafting equipment to process and analyze survey data.
  • Assist in developing new standards, procedures, and policies relating to surveying, necessitated by the advent of new automated survey equipment.Must rely on thorough knowledge of all aspects of surveying, highway design, highway construction, boundary monumentation, federal government requirements, and related Oregon laws.
  • Provide technical assistance relating to ODOT survey procedures to various units of ODOT, outside agencies, and consultants.
  • Research and test new survey instruments and software for future procurement.
  • Work directly with survey crews when using specialized equipment for short-term nonstandard surveying situations.
  • Work with survey vendors keeping up with new developments and technology.Provide a source of information for field personnel.
  • Work with other sections of ODOT to coordinate activities relating to automation.
  • Working Conditions: Extensive overnight statewide travel.Travel may be in adverse weather conditions. Must work in the field with crews to provide on-the-job training and assistance. Field work may be in inclement weather. Provide classroom instruction and work in office surroundings.

Minimum Qualifications:
A valid Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license.


Must have and maintain a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record.

NOTE: If registered in another state, successful applicants will be required to obtain comity within six months of hire.
