The Chehalis Area Engineering Office is currently seeking to fill a Transportation Engineer 2 position. This position will be responsible for administration and delivery of Plans, Specifications, and Estimates for key highway design and construction projects, and will assist the Office Engineer in contract administration writing change orders. This position will perform the following work:
•Perform general inspection on highway construction projects.
•Serve as a designer performing a variety of skilled project development work.
•Develop change orders from conception through completion.
•Assist in performing design and construction surveys.
•Interpret data, identify problems and develop solutions using sound engineering judgment and guidelines on complicated transportation projects.
•Scope, develop, and monitor progress of projects.
•Effectively utilize design software to complete designs.
•Train and lead team members.
•Visibly demonstrate your commitment to the Department's safety program.
•Communicate both orally and in writing, and work in a cooperative and courteous manner with the public, contractors, supervisors, and other department staff.
•Occasionally travel to various locations around the state.
An ideal candidate for this position will have:
•Solid understanding of engineering principles and mathematical formulas.
•The ability to read, interpret, understand, review and produce contract plans, specifications, and estimates.
•The ability to plan, schedule, and track multiple work activities.
•Strong communication skills both in the written and verbal form.
•Proficient use of computer, including knowledge of engineering and computer aided drafting software applications.
•The ability to traverse uneven terrain in all weather conditions.
•The ability to transport, manipulate, and move into position materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
•A degree in Civil Engineering and/or EIT certification are preferred.
•Valid driver's license.
The ideal candidate will also have one of the following:
•Two (2) years of experience as a Transportation Engineer 1, Transportation Technician 3, or Bridge Engineer 1.
•Certification as an Engineer-In-Training AND one (1) year of experience as a Transportation Engineer 1, Transportation Technician 3, or Bridge Engineer 1.
•A Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Soil Mechanics, Traffic, or Transportation.
•Equivalent combination of education and experience.
