Professional Engineer Managers plan, coordinate and oversee projects, programs and consultant contracts/agreements and perform licensed professional engineering functions.
Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives.
This position is located in Carson City within the Construction Division. Incumbent will manage the Constructability and Scheduling sections and assist in generating support of districts and their personnel in understanding and implementing policy and guidelines established within the Department’s construction program; manage a portion of the division's service provider program. Responsibilities include: working with a variety of Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) divisions, other government agencies, and external stakeholders during project development to ensure advertised documents for construction projects are biddable and buildable; calculating contract working days by generating critical path method schedules, training the construction crews on the scheduling software, and analyzing contractor's schedules to determine compliance with contractual requirements; serving as an active member of the Bid Review Analysis Team to analyze contractor's bids; participating in project reviews before and during construction to identify potential issues; performing Post Construction Reviews, and generating recommendations from lessons learned; and evaluating service provider program needs, developing requests for proposals, and ensuring service provider agreements are administered efficiently.
Current licensure as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) and two years of experience performing professional engineering work in a supervisory or responsible project charge capacity; OR one year of experience as a Supervisor, Professional Engineer in Nevada State service; OR licensure and two years of experience as a Staff II or Supervisor II, Associate Engineer in Nevada State service; OR licensure and an equivalent combination of education and experience.
A person that is a licensed Professional Engineer in another state must become licensed as a Professional Engineer in Nevada within six months of appointment as a condition of continuing employment.
Registration as a Professional Engineer is required at the time of employment and as a condition of continuing employment.
